BigData/Innovation Meetup – Targu Mures

Postat de: Kodok Márton

We are keen to announce BigData/Innovation Meetup in Targu Mures, Tuesday, June 2, 2015. (free entry – online registration required).

We will have two impressive presentations, see our Agenda:

1. Complex Realtime Event Analytics Using BigQuery – by Márton Kodok, Senior Software Engineer at REEA
2. Innovation in Software – by Dr. Johann Stan, Patent Examiner in Information Retrieval, European Patent Office
3. Lightning talks and Open Discussion

We have a lot of things to learn from this meetup and many thanks for speakers for presenting us these great topics.

Register your free spot online at:

1. Complex Realtime Event Analytics Using BigQuery

Complex event analytics solutions require massive architecture, and Know-How to build a fast real-time computing system. Google BigQuery solves this problem by enabling super-fast, SQL-like queries against append-only tables, using the processing power of Google’s infrastructure.
In this presentation we will see how Bigquery solves our ultimate goal: Store everything accessible by SQL immediately at petabyte-scale.

2. Innovation in Software

Innovation is a key ingredient for economic growth. It translates inventions or ideas into services that create value and generate growth. An inventor himself and now a patent examiner, Johann Stan will investigate in this talk different types of innovation (disruptive, sustainable, etc.) and speak about the process behind the creation of inventions. A particular focus will be devoted to inventions in computer technologies and to the techniques to verify if such an invention is novel and inventive.

Dr. Johann Stan Patent Examiner in Information Retrieval, European Patent Office, founder of @[412449018935914:274:Innovation Academy] and @[1427877934091850:274:TEDxTârguMureș].

3. Lightning talks

The lightning talk is a very popular format, used at many conferences, where speakers have a mere 15 minutes at their disposal to showcase an open source project, an idea, or a concept thereof. While that brief lapse of time may seem awkward, it almost always leads the presenters to concentrate on the absolute essence and what is really important, which is why it is often a much appreciated approach, as is the wide variety of the topics.

Use the online registration form to signal a lightning talk.

Good bye Mandriva

Yesterday we learned that Mandriva, the company was shutting down and I saw a lot of sad comments on Twitter. Then I realized that few of those guys seemd to be aware that actually, Mandriva the company, wasn’t doing a Linux distribution anymore for a few years. The Mandriva Linux distribution is no…

Bitcoin mining on a 55 year old IBM 1401 mainframe: 80 seconds per hash

Postat de: Cristian Gherman
Daca vrei poti face si pe masini de pe vremea bunicului…

The photo below shows the card deck I used, along with the output of my SHA-256 hash program as printed by the line printer. (The card on the front of the deck is just for decoration; it was a huge pain to punch.) Note that the second line of output ends with a bunch of zeros; this indicates a succe…

44 de ani de evolutie in lumea Unix

A Repository with 44 Years of Unix Evolution!

“The evolution of the Unix operating system is made available as a version-control repository, covering the period from its inception in 1972 as a five thousand line kernel, to 2015 as a widely-used 26 million line system. The repository contains 659 thousand commits and 2306 merges. The repository employs the commonly used Git system for its storage, and is hosted on the popular GitHub archive. It has been created by synthesizing with custom software 24 snapshots of systems developed at Bell Labs, UC Berkeley, and the 386BSD team, two legacy repositories, and the modern repository of the open source FreeBSD system. In total, 850 individual contributors are identified, the early ones through primary research. The data set can be used for empirical research in software engineering, information systems, and software archaeology.”
